I need some crutches!

Specifically, I need some crutches suitable for someone with fat arms.

The Physio has given me crutches, but the arm bit is so tight that they are almost unusable. She has never seen this problem before, and couldn't offer any advice or alternatives, just to put up with it.

Is it possible to get crutches with wider arm-y bits, suitable for someone very heavy?

Do they not have any of the old style srutches that go under armpit rather than around the arm??

Get back to her and rattle her cage ! She can source correct sized arm bits if she wants to.

She didn't mention them, wonder if they wouldn't be suitable. I'll give them a call tomorrow and ask.

Errata

Please don't take this the wrong way, but 1 in 4 adults in the UK are now obese. That means they may have arms even fatter than yours.
It would be absurd if there were no NHS elbow crutches that were large enough for the obese population group.

I saw your picture, you don't have fat arms.

The Pysio's never seen that problem before? Go pull the other one.

I was suprised that the crutches are able to take a weight of up to 25 stone, but still have a very small arm thing. Surely lots of heavy people have fat arms?

I've found some 'open cuff' ones online, I might just have to order a pair of those if the Physio department can't help tomorrow.

Might be worth asking your local Red Cross branch, if you have one which loans equipment. If they can get them, why can't your physio?

I imagine as its a temporary problem (only going to last 6 months or so) and there isn't any treatment they can give me, they just wanted me out the door!

I'll call them when I'm a bit more awake.
