I just had to pop into Blackburn 3 day market to the stall at the back, which sells a lot of OOD or near it's date stuff. They have those Disney tins of chocs (same price as but smaller that the QS and Roses) at 2 for £5 and their date is 02/07 I believe. I didn't want to buy any today as I had kids with me, but may venture back next week.

It's all your fault for starting this thread you know!!!! You are a wicked woman AT!!

    (:rotfl:)
  • they sould be fine. We are munching our way through a tin of roses at the moment which were bought last year and went out of date April 2005. The chocolate is fine some of the fondant centres have hardened up slightly but are perfectly edible.
  • This is all very heartening - it looks more and more likely that I can pull this off without anyone (other than the 259 peeps that have read this thread) knowing what a tight a*** I really am. My hubs knows this already, he saw me putting the 6 unused crackers back in the loft - no, not cream crackers - but I'd like to think that I've pulled a fast one against all the supermarkets with this tin of choccs. I also bought 4 rolls of turkey foil at the same time too, that should last me through the year, if I wash it carefully

Sarahsaver - don't worry, they won't get eaten, I can be firm with myself about that, my little niggling worry is that I forget them and go and buy a new tin  , will someone remind me in december please?

You can do this yourself, apprentice tycoon.

Put a reminder note now in your diary or calendar at the end of November or beginning of December.

I use this forward planning method to remind me to buy the academic year diary pages for my file-o-fax in March and to remember to buy a fishing rod license in April so that the bailiff doesn't send me to court.

  • Yes, you're right Nile - I shouldn't put the burden of having to remember my tin of choccs on 259 other people, it's written on the november page of the calendar - you can all stand down now

    Good news apprentice tycoon :)

Just spoke to neighbour who is a manager in a choccy factory and milk choccy has a shelf life of around 2 years if stored correctly i.e in a cool, dry place.
The exception to this would be M&S choc which has the shortest shelf life.

White choc only keeps for about a year and I forgot to ask about dark.

But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D
  • Rage...are you laughing at my poor spelling (or is that the French spelling?, if so I'll say that it was deliberate) or the idea that I could just try the one chocolate?

It wouldn't bother me in the least eating out of date chocolate but I don't think it tastes as fresh really. However, I would be a bit insulted if someone bought me out of date chocolate as a present. My hubbie and I got a cappuccino gift set for christmas this year with little biscuits in and they tasted stale. It wouldn't surprise me if they were a present someone got last year and gave to us this year!
  • I'm pleased to say that the tin of Roses was fine, no sign of being stored for 11 months, including the hottest summer for ages
