I was shopping today in Asda and wanted sausages for a casserole. They had packets at 88p that looked quite nice (I normally buy the value ones), and I noticed that they had today's date on the sell-by. As it was early in the day, they weren't stickered, so I thought I'd do something I've never done before and approached a member of staff to ask if I could get a price reduction. She told me it wouldn't be a problem and reduced them to half price.
I've always thought you have to shop in the evenings for the yellow stickers, and rarely find any good deals. I'll definitely be asking in future.

some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it

Not sure if I would have the nerve to do it. I have asked them to reduce something that was already reduced when they are planning to bring the price down anyway.0

Wow that's brave.
My Morrisons only seem to take about 10% off goods with todays sell by date until around 4pm when stuff goes to perhaps 40-50% off.
I have never seen stuff for 10-20p like some people report.
Although I never get the chance to shop just before closing time ....

As this isn't strictly Old Style, I'll move it to the Shop Don't Drop board
