Jobs in schools?

I have recently started working in a school doing admin work last week. My role is a full-time role therefore I have to work through all holidays, but some of the office staff are term-time. When you start working ina school you will start at the bottom of the grade mentioned in the advert. My office role is based in scotland and is £11589-£14200 if you work 35hrs. I amjob share of 17.5hrs but it works for my personal circumstances. Good luck and hope you are able to find a job.
Thanks for your message Lynn - would you mind me asking what qualifications they required for this role? I have typing skills but I would need to brush up on my IT and wondered what course would be most suitable for this position?0 -
Lynn
Did you have any experience before going inot that position? and how did you apply was it through the council, interview etc.
My wife has had several interviews for Clerical and Classromm assistants positions but always seems to fall shy at last hurdle, personnally i think most of these jobs are pre selected before interviews but they need to go through the motions.
Thats why Lynn i would like to hear abnout your experience in obtaining one
thanks in advance

I gained a HND in secretarial studies at college when I was 18 ( awhile ago now) and then have been working in 5 different admin/secretarial jobs over the years and was made redundant end September. I used to visit the 2 local council websites and apply on-line for jobs which suited me - ie 3 days due to childcare. anyway a month later I got an interview and about 2 hours later I received the phone call to say that I got the job. I waited 2 weeks for the disclosure paperwork to come through and then another 4 weeks for disclosure to clear. I was advised by my new boss that these jobs are usually filled by other applicants from other schools but they took a gamble on me and oh presto I am employed by them. I did not get a letter from the council about my position but its usual for the council personnel - at least I am working and hopefully will get paid. It was a panel interview and then a simple typing test. I do not think you need a lot of qualifications and I would apply for any jobs you wish to do and see what happens. Hope this helps.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46

I would recommend doing some volunteering in school, then applying for roles. Many TAs ge qualified paid for by the school once working in there.£2 Savers club £0/£150

I started work in a school 7 years ago as a receptionist with no previous experience in a role of that kind. So qualifications are not needed, however sound IT skills are almost a must for a school admin job. Previous experience in a school is not necessary, as most schools will invest in staff training for the right person. Being the right person is more important that qualifications.
TA jobs are very badly paid £500-£600 per month for 25 hrs per week. Basic admin jobs are no better but a lot of secondary schools are now operating care and guidance units which tend to want staff that are a little better paid.
For the record, I was earning £11k 7 years ago as a receptionist and now earn £30k plus as a School Business Manager (and that is low paid for the post a lot of them earn £40k plus in secondaries). There is money to be made in education if you are ambitious and have a brain. Check out the TDA website for training opportunities or you could try and access funding from Train to Gain. Hope this helps0 -
