applied & got a job but not the one i was interviewed for

i was made up to pass a difficult interview and get promotion.

the job was for a particular specialism and the interview was tailored around that. I got a phonecall a couple of days later to say i'd got the job and it was a permanent contract. I was thrilled. Six weeks later they have just got round to phoning me and offered me a totally different job which is the same grade.

its not the job i applied for and i think its unfair. i would never in a million years applied for the job so why i was interviewed for one but then offered another one is beyond me.

is there anything i can do? i've told them i don't want the job but i want to take it further.

I'd try ACAS. But I'd doubt that your employer would be legally obliged to offer you the job role that you applied for originally if that role is now not needed/or no longer available.

the job is there tho - there were 7 jobs and we were all interviewed with the same questions etc. 6 have got the job that was advertised and i have been offered a completely different job that i have no alternative but to turn down due to its location AND being split between two clinics 10 miles apart.

i have gone through a really stressful process for nothing and they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it i at least want to see if i'm entitled to a job.

when i was phoned after the interview i was told 'we'd like to offer you the role of clinical officer but 6 weeks down the line they've just rung to tell me i'm being taken on as something else.

If somebody else has been appointed to the job you wanted, perhaps they were more suitable?

without bragging, i've been offered this other job as i've got experience in a certain field than the others so in one way i should see it as a compliment. its just a pain tho as its all extra travelling involved and working split sites.

all the job advert & interview letter were for the job of $$$$$ then they rang and said they were offering me the job of $$$$ and i was made up. They said they'd be in touch with a location and then 6 weeks later ring and say 'oh we want you to be a %%%% instead'.

i don't think they can do that. I already work for the company and have done for many years.
