I'm going to do it!!

Hi All!

Lordy I'm so glad that I found this site! It's fantastic.

I thought I was really terribly in debt until I read lots of other posts.

The banks and co have been making a fortune out of me and it's going to stop.

(I cut up the credit card last year, just gotta pay the thing off now.)

With each other's support I know that we can all do it

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

    Hi Linda,
I only found this site in December. Its so brilliant. Through everyones help so far i have produced a state of affairs and posted it - i would have never done that on my own.

i was on the computer last night posting my SOA and when i went to bed i couldn't sleep - but this time not through stress but because i was excited that i can be free of this in 2 years after having debt stress for 14 years!

lots of hard work to go yet but somehow posting on here you feel accountable to stick to budgets and everyone is so supportive.

    best wishes for 2006.

This website and forum is my new 'bible!' Everyone on here is so supportive and non-judgemental, which is vital.

I'm due my wage rise and some back pay which I should get either this month, Feb or March.

Anyone else working for the NHS will groan when I mention Agenda for Change! But I was banded in October higher than I am now.

I will use this money to pay off as much as I can. Job No1 will be to clear the overdraft, Argos & Next accounts as they have the highest rate of interest. I'll keep posting the reduction in amounts on my signature.

I also feel guilty as I previously didn't think of the money that I owe to my Dad as a 'debt' just because he didn't send me reminder letters like the card and accounts do.
As you see, I've now listed it and recognise this as a debt that must be cleared, as my Dad lent me that money in good faith to help me out of a hole.

I too work for the NHS and received the grand sum of 36.33 back pay under AfC, - groan all NHS workers, I made the point too of paying this off my debts, so well done Linda!

  • It took them 14 months to do my AFC - I was lucky and got the grand sum of £51.23 before tax!

Linda is there any way you could get your Next and Argos cards moved? Just the APR's will be hideous -just a thought

    Thanks Magenta.

I applied for a 0% card but was turned down, probably because of my poor track record with my current account which has been constantly overdrawn for the past 18 months. I can pay off the Argos card and a fair bit of the Next account this month when I get paid.

Agenda for Change has been the most unequitable load of crap going, every PCT and Trust has done it differently so how can they say it's fair across the country? It ISN'T!!!!!!

It's just an exercise for the NHS to cut it's huge deficit at the cost of it's loyal staff. The NHS should post it's SOA on here for us to sort out.

  • I'll ask my boss for one - my directorate is 2 million in the red as it is - I'm sure we could sort it out!

don't know about you other NHS's, but I'm looking around, luckily for me I'm, admin and clerical so can take my skills outside the NHS, I work for/with a good team of people but am fed up with penny pinching. Some seem to forget that rather than figures these are PEOPLE, we are dealing with, sorry hijacked your post!

Oh god Agenda for Change. For some reason my highly specialised skills are not valued within the NHS anymore because we have little patient contact. Well i will be taking all i have learnt retraining and getting the hell out of there ASAP. My £30 backpay also went on debt repayment.

On a positive note well done you can get it paid off.
