going part-time, how to work out salary?

Hi - I wonder if anyone knows how to work out how much a salary would be reduced by going part-time? My OH is thinking of reducing her hours to either 3 or 4 days following the end of her maternity leave next year. Obviously we could work out roughly how much her salary would reduce but how do you factor in tax and NI etc.
Also she is in a salary sacrifice scheme for her pension and the company we both work for offers a salary sacrifice for the nursery they run.
Its a bit too confusing for us to work it out

She should be able to ask the HR department to work it out for her.0

thanks - I just assumed they would say they wouldn't have time to do stuff like that, but its worth giving it a go, I'll suggest it to her. Cheers.pinksleepybear wrote: »She should be able to ask the HR department to work it out for her.0 -
Go to the following site:

You will need to have a rough idea of what your wife's gross income would be going part time. Put it in the box and it works out the net for you.:rolleyes:0 -

thanks that's pretty useful - I tried it with my salary and it was more or less spot on apart from National Insurance payments. I'm paying about £20 less than it has worked out0 -
Her HR dept will be able to tell her - it is part of their role to calculate things like this.
I know I work 2 days a week, pay creche via salary sacrifice, pension via direct from salary and also share save scheme (quite a lot) I end up only having about £350 go into my bank account but as OH earns enough to do this we get a lovely share save bonus - even if the shares go down we can have cash plus a bonus back.
See HR, if they can't do it they will contact payroll.
