Travel Car Seat

Hi

When we go on holiday to France each year, we usually hire a car including a child's car seat. However after seeing the poor quality seats they have provided for the past couple of years, I was wondering if there was any sort of travel car seat that I could buy and take with me instead. My daughter will be just over 3 at the date of travel.

Does anyone know of anything? It would need to be something that could be fairly easily transported on a plane and not too heavy to lug about.

There's probably no such thing, but thought I'd ask as I'd imagine anything would be safer than the horrible ones the car rental firms provide that don't fix in place properly, the straps never tighten properly and in our experience are always twisted!

Just wondering whether it would be possible to take our own car seat, ie maxi cosi priori, on the plane as checked in luggage. Anybody else done that? Is it allowed? We're flying with easyjet.

When we went away last year we took my sister's spare Britax Ranger (designed for 3-10ish) as it's light and quite portable. They're in Halfords sale just now. I'm sure I saw 'big' carseats like yours coming round the carousel though - probably worth checking with the airline. Although how much you want it to get chucked about by baggage handlers is another story...

Hi funky, thanks for your reply.

I've been looking at various seats and one that has caught my eye is the graco junior car seat. At least if I get this one I can use it in the future as a booster seat.

Is this similar to your one? If so do you just check it in as luggage leaving it assembled, or do you remove the back and put it in a bag? Would it be feasible to bag it do you think? And how easy is the back to remove and put back - is it just a couple of clicks or is it a "get the manual out" type job?!
