Can I sweeten last years strained damson gin?

I hope this is the right place to post this question!

I have some damson gin that I made last year, it has been strained, but I foolishly didn't taste it at the time - I want to use it for Christmas presents but it is quite tart. Can I sweeten it at this stage? Would I use sugar syrup?
I don't want to throw it away and would appreciate any advise please.
Thanks in advance!

    Morning,

I am no expert, , but I would have thought you could just put some more sugar in, it will disolve before Xmas, and make it a lot sweeter  , enjoy

I agree with Redruby. Just add more sugar and give it a shake every day until Christmas.

I envy you-this is the first year in many that I've had no damson gin for Christmas. There just weren't any damsons in my area this year:(
  • I'd make up some sugar syrup and add it bit by bit, tasting as you go, give it a good shake and you're done.
I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

No, I couldn't get any this year either, something to do with the weather conditions last spring apparently. That means I won't have any D. gin next year. I missed out on the sloes this year too :( . Thanks for the reply, I will add sugar and hope for the best! Just relieved I haven't got to throw it. I think I got a bit complacent lol.

    Hi owlet,

The sugar will work.......my sloe gin was too tart and I added more sugar and gave it a good stir every morning and it's all disolved now and tastes much better.

I went for the sugar syrup option for speed and it is now gorgeous. One last question, when do I have to stop tasting it? It's a bit nice lol.
    Thanks again everyone xx
