Can anyone help or has anyone else had experience of this?
My phone provider is BT and I use ntl for dialup.
I signed up to 1899 at the begnning of November and have been satisfied with the service. However I'm now being told by people they have tried to call me and they can't get connected. They'll be using a mixture of providers themselves - BT, telewest, ntl etc.

Nothing to do with 1899 - that's an outgoing service only.
Call BT Faults and report what your callers are telling you.
Good point DD (below), I didn't think of that.:doh:Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Can't get through to you in what way? Is this seemingly random or is the problem there all the time? What do they get when they ring you, busy tone, number unobtainable (constant tone) etc?
As you use dial-up, could it be that they keep calling when your on the internet?0 -
Thanks, people are telling me they're dialling my number and get neither ringing, engaged or unobtainable tones - just a profound silence and it's happening when I'm not on the net. For instance, I was called yesterday morning at 6am; the caller dialled my number three consecutive times and got silence each time. It seems strange, but may be coincidence, that this has only been happening since I registered with 1899 so wondered if anyone else has had this problem.0

Heinz is correct. Indirect Access providers such as 1899 cannot affect your incoming calls in any way as you are only pointed to 1899 by the exchange when you dial the access code.
Next time it happens ask the person calling you to report as a fault.0 -
