Can anybody please help?

I was recently on a DMP but i had to leave my job at Tmobile about 6 months ago as i was moving back home from Uni Halls and they could not offer me a transfer at the time.

I couldnt afford any DMP payments with CCCS for the last three months and i explained my situation but they still wanted the payments for the debt management plan (which is understandable) but i couldnt pay it. They cancelled my DMP arrangement.

Ive been looking for work but i have been rejected at a lot of places but i am continually looking still with a few interviews lined up so am hoping something comes my way.

The problem is that my creditors are now aware that i am no longer with CCCS and because of this one of my creditors sent me a default notice a month ago and then a CCJ Letter from the courts which i agreed to £5 a month after they saw my income. I am also a full time uni student.

Other creditors are now asking for higher payments and are refusing any offer i make. They have even said that they may take legal procedings now.

Is there any solution as to what i could do next? Am just worried that i might end up with CCJ's with all my creditors especially when they are no longer willing to accept any offers i make. Plus i am jobless at the moment so that doesnt help but i do get my student loan and maintanence grant which i can use some of that to pay bills for now.

  • Am so sorry i forgot to say hello to everyone and thank you in advance for your help. I really feel so scared and i hope there is an option out there.
  • Hi and welcome

I might not be much help but only give your creditors what you can afford - if you don't have it, they can't have it. If you do get taken to court then hopefully the courts will see that you are attempting to clear your debts and rule in your favour. Unfortunately, CCJ's may happen but it could work in your favour as the payments are set by the courts and not by the creditor and the courts will set payments at an affordable amount for you.

Keep sending them what you can afford even if they say they want more as they eventually will accept it.

Sorry if this is not what you want to hear or much help. Someone with more experience will be along soon.

    Good luck.

  • Hi preciousb

I don't have a huge amount of constructive advice but wanted to just say hi and welcome you to the boards.

You could try to speak to one of the other not-for profi debt organisations: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help and even if they can't help you with a DMP they should be able to help you work out what your next move is and how you should approach it.

Well done for carrying on looking for work, I am sure that someone with your tenacity will find something soon - all the best for your hunt.

Fingers crossed and best wishes for you

  • Thank you everyone for your help, my debt is in total £6,000 and i finish my degree in 6 months too so i will be hoping to get a job somewhere after my degree too. Would it be wise to go for another DMP with another organisation or should i just keep offering to pay as much as i can, let it go to a CCJ if that happens?
  • Hi again

I'd try the CAB who are also free and they can help you with dealing with your creditors. Payplan also do free dmp's.

Check out the National Debtline website - there is a whole host of information there and also give them a ring - they are free. They also have letters that you could use where you could write to your creditors offering them pro-rated payments.

Keep offering as much as you can afford until you have spoken with the charities I have mentioned.

  • If i was to seek advice and was offered a DMP again, would i be accepted especially when i dont have an income at the moment apart from my Student Loan and Maintanence Grant?
  • Not sure to be honest. It depends on the surplus you have each month. I think Payplan require £150 surplus every month (but I'm not sure on the exact figure - I could be wrong on that).

I do recommend you contact the CAB and National Debtline. They would be able to advise you on the best course of action.
