Yet another JSA question

I was made redundant a month ago, and it becomes official on Thursday, which is when I owuld want to put in a claim for JSA (I'm jobhunting but no luck so far).
However, I have for the last coupld of years, in addition to my proper full time job, written an article once a month (and sometimes not even that) for a local magazine, for which I am paid £100. I then fill in a tax return and pay tax on it.
So, can I still do this once a month (I do it in my own time) and claim JSA? Or will I have to give it up? Or is there another way round it?
I mean, it's not an actual JOB, no-one could live on £100 a month! It's pin money and I need/want a full-time proper job which is what I'm looking for.
Anyway, just some guidance/advice needed. I'd rather not give up the writing thing cos I like doing it, but I have a horrible feeling I might have to if I want to claim JSA.

You can still claim JSA - unless it were taking you 16 hours or more a week to do!
"In your own time" is because for that work you are self-employed - so it is work time.
You are allowed to earn a little (I think £5) each week without a deduction from your JSA payment. After that it gets reduced £ for £ I believe. You need to let the Jobcentre know you have received a payment and that it took less than 16 hours in any week to produce your article(s).
Good luck with the jobsearch.0 -

If it's just £100 a month, then you'll receive your weekly JSA, minus £20.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
