  • thanks,

i have a testing day on thursday and my confidence is at an all time low. I dont feel i am capable of getting a new job. :-(

Here's what i have to look forward to on Thursday.

"The day will consist of two written tests. The first exercise will run for
just over two hours and requires you to draw up action plans to deal with a
set of problems outlined in written materials. After lunch you will
complete a letter-writing exercise which involves writing a letter in
response to a complaint. This second exercise will run for under an hour.
All the information required to undertake these exercises will be provided
    on the day."

Read the question. Take a deep breath. Read the question again ...

I was taught when dealing with complaints to apologise but never make excuses, eg "I'm terribly sorry your bin hasn't been emptied this week, I will contact the relevant dept and make sure someone comes out first thing tomorrow" is fine, but "All the bin men have got flu and some of the lorries have broken down" is NOT (even if true!)

Also don't promise what you can't deliver. THINK about what is likely in responding to a complaint. EG applying for a job with a Housing Association, someone was threatening to withhold rent because repairs hadn't been done, I said (and I was right!) that withholding rent was not a good idea however strongly he felt about the service he was getting!

    Good luck.
