Employer Moving Pay Date

Hello all,

My employer has decided to move our pay days, right before christmas (GREAT IDEA)

I used to get paid on the last working day of the month now its being moved til the 15th, so at the moment i'm as skint as skint can be, and will have to wait another 2 weeks before getting paid for the previous months work. Are they allowed to do this??

In my pay will not be any extra money, so its seems like im working 15days extra for nothing.

Can anyone help or shed some light on this situation

Thanks
Lee

Surely if you are now not getting paid till the 15th of December, they will pay you 6 weeks' pay rather than four weeks' pay? Otherwise when will you get paid for the first two weeks in December?! They can't expect you to work 6 weeks for 4 weeks' pay!

I see no reason for them NOT being able to change the pay date, although if it was written into your contract that you would be paid on the 30th of each month for example, I think they need to get everyone to agree to the change BEFORE they implement it and sign a new contract.
If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.
  • Check with your employer whether this is a one off or permanent thing - I usually get paid on the last business day of month but every year at christmas we get paid around the 17th Dec and then it reverts back to the usual in January. I think its to do with all the bank holidays. If this is the case you could transfer the money into a diff account and try not to use it (easier said than done i know!)
  • Hi

Its a permanent thing, its truely madness if you ask me, he asked everyones opinion and that was the last we heard of it.

So we are working 2 weeks for Free lol

Well I'd be asking when you can expect the money for December 1st-15th and also, if your boss would be willing to pay for everyone's bounced direct debits and standing orders! ;)

Hi Lee, we really need some more details or for you to ask your employer for details on what you will be paid...

    currently your pay would be:
1st to 31st December with your months pay paid on 31st December. one month in arrears.

    It is proposed to be:
1st to 31st December with your months pay paid on the 15th December. two weeks in arrears, two weeks upfront/early?

If that's the proposal they you don't really loose at all, you get the same salary just earlier than expected.

And your employer can change your paydate by giving you notice, there would be no requirement to have agreement or get you to sign a new contract.
  • Hi Scottn,

1st - 31st November will be paid on the 15th December
1st - 31st Decemeber will be paid on the 15th January

Sounds very silly if you ask me, so this is two weeks in arrears for that month i've worked

  • We get paid on the 15th of the month and it's really good. You always know the date you get paid sometimes a day or two early if it's on a Sat/Sun. It works quite well.

They could have changed it after Feb. for you though after your done with you xmas budget!

Edit: We work on the 1st November - End of November and get paid on the 15th November.

I would tell them your not happy with the change of conditions and are not prepared to accept them. You could suggest this way would be acceptable. You must tell your employer that you object to the change, and give your reasons. You should do this in writing, sign and date your letter, and keep a copy. This letter will count as a written grievance.
  • Its just annoying going to have to wait an extra two weeks before being paid!!

bizarre! employers trying to keep money in the bank longer!

are they funding any costs associated with changing direct debits etc?
  • They havent asked or offered to pay any costs associated with the change in dates!!
