Real debt problems need help pls

For first time in life have found myself in real debt problems, i am on benifit with 2 small children under 5, DH walked out and now filing for divorce. Found that in joint names i now oew nearly £10, 000 and i really cant afford any of it, so far moorcrof have been sympathetic and allowing me to pay £5 a month, the bank are allowing me to pay £2 a week as DH drew more than the available balance from account, £750 more! and then MBNA are alleging i once had a card with them, i really never had and had never heard of them till then to the tune of 5 grand!! They are re looking into it, on top of all that talktalk, phone company, are alleging i ran up a phone bill of £200 more than usual on premium rate lines which are banned from our landline and have been for 2 yrs at 4am in the morning - a time when i hope both me and the kids are finally asleep.

I dont know what to do as the CAB and the CCCS say without a regular wage i can only offer token payments. None of this is my fault and yet im the one being blacklisted :( Im really hoping on of you lovely people can help me please
Thanks Jane xx

Hi, I don't really know what to suggest, but someone will hopefully be about in the next day to see what help they can provide.

Only thing I can suggest to try and get at least MBNA off your back is to request that they send you a copy of your signed credit agreement. If they cannot produce that then they cannot demand anything of you. Also, if premium numbers are banned from your phoneline, then you should not be responsible for this bill. Have they told you how you managed to dial these numbers whilst asleep, with call- barring on your phone?

What is happening with the joint debts, is your husband paying anything towards them? Also have you spoken to them and explained the split?

One last thing I have just thought of is are you in rented or owner occupier property as you may be able to get assistance towards your rent?

Sorry, not been much help at all really, but just want to send you some :grouphug: and a rather large bar of dairy milk!

Are you getting help from CAB or CCCS or did you just make a phone call to see where you might stand? CAB would be able to negotiate your other problems too so it's well worth a visit to them. They will also be able to advise in detail about other help you might be entitled to.

    Good luck :rudolf:

  • Hey Horridhenry,

i am right in thinking ur of the other board i go on arn't you. What i would suggest that u prob need to do on here is a full statement of affairs so that we know all income, expenditure (inc everything, food, treats, petrol etc etc etc) It may not help u in what u have to pay back but it may be able to allow other people in helping u save costs.

Don't worry i have done the same thing (differant situation mind) and the people here are really nice, and hence why its just bout my favourite board!

    Hi,
I am afraid that I cannot help much, but with regards to the premium rate numbers,
Is your internet access via dial-up or internet t.v? If so you could have a rogue dialler, something that has installed itself onto your p.c so that your connection is re-routed through a premium rate number, you do not have to actually be online for this to happen.

If you have a list of the premium rate numbers, you can try checking them out at
    http://www.icstis.org.uk/
These are the premium rate services regulator.
You can phone them, it is quite hard to get through as they get innundated with people having problems with these numbers, but from my expiriance, they are very helpful.
