Competition,Competitions

Hi Money savers, I know the following is not quite a money saving item, But for the last 2 years i have started entering competitions, from bake beans, to local newspapers, ok my winning have not been that exciting but let me tell you a little story that happened to me 6 months ago

"I was working part time in a Hotel Bar, when five marketing executives from the a well known High street Bank asked if would be so kind to be an independant ajudicator for selecting 2 winners for State of the art Audio equipment totalling 1500 pounds in a free Prize draw that had been running thru branches nationwide!!!

I picked two winners out of a Total of 6 entries!!!!!"

enough waffle are there any plans for a competition Freebie thread to be started???

To start the ball rolling heres one

1000's of prizes and if your also good at story telling you could win free cinema tickets as well..

waiting with baited breath to see if there is interest in a competition thread?

I would be very interested in a competition thread.

I used to do lots of them but never won anything except for £200 a few years ago for writing a slogan - felt very proud of myself and promptly failed to win a sausage from then on.

Lets hope I am not the only hopeful out there. :):):)

i love comps.. especially if i can do them online
Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
    Are thinking of you today.
  • I used to do lots of comps, but only slogans, as I felt there was more chance of a win because too many people enter the prize draw types. I won a few things including a £5000 room makeover for a friend (from whom I did'nt even get as much as a few dried flowers as a thanks!)

I'm never inclined to enter online comps as I've never heard of anyone actually winning anything, at least not the main prize. I'm not interested in the small stuff!  ;D

I don't think there is much point in setting up a new forum as they are already web sites which list more competitions than you can ever enter. For example Loquax.

I used to spend my lunch break every day using this site to enter competitions and did quite well. I disagree online competitions are not worth entering. All of mine were online. I won a ski holiday, a flight anywhere in the world, a multi-activity day at Silverstone, a bunch a PC games, tickets to the Rugby World final and more.

This was a couple of years ago. I have not bothered recently as it does take a lot of effort. Here's a couple of tips though:

    1) Set up a new email address which you just use for entering competitions. You will get a LOT of junk emails sent to it and you can simply drop it and take out another when it gets too much. Always look for the options to tick/untick to avoid being sent postal or email junk too.

    2) I did best in competitons involving some skill.

    3) Early on some competitions either forgot to disallow multiple entries or even said they were permitted in their T&C. Worth checking. I entered one such competition which specificly allowed it over 2000 times. After all it doesn't cost anything online and I set up a script to automate it. Those who didn't read the T&C only entered once. I won of course!

    4) Obscure competions or those with short entry periods are good as less people enter.

Well, I've just started doing competitions in the last 6 months. I'm useless at the slogan ones - I can never think of anything vaguely good.

However, I have just won a box of chocolate and a bra and knicker set from "postcard" competitions in Prima magazine. I was really chuffed with myself!

It's a great idea to have a competitions thread. If you think that people don't win online, just take a look at the forums at Loquax, loads of winners are listed. Last week I won a £50 voucher at GHD, and my prize is coming next week.
There are currently lots of online Advent competitions running, which are always worth entering.
    Good luck

  • I love competitions too - don't win much but still love entering. I would never have bothered with online comps and thought they were just a marketing ply but now I see this thread I might just enter!!
