Paperwork and Order of Organising Things

My partner and I just got engaged, and we're hoping to marry fairly quickly. Neither of us is a UK resident, although I'm a citizen, and we're looking to marry in my hometown.

We need a bunch of paperwork from our local consulate, but then we need to present ourselves to the registrar in the district we intend to marry in, and to get further paperwork from him/her.

The question is, do we do that before we book a venue, or after? What sort of order should we be thinking about?

(The bureaucracy puts my dress stress completely in the shade; Landy are unable to make the dress I wanted for me and I'm a little bit gutted.)

Have you actually spoken to the registrar yet? There are very strict rules about people from overseas getting married in the UK, so before making any plans phone them up and check what you need to do.

I'm going to the consulate this morning. They're notoriously hard to get through to on the phone, and they're right beside my office.

Should have left by now, actually.....

Our registrar let us book the ceremony date well in advance before any of the official paperwork went through.

i wouldn't hand over deposits for anything until you have booked your registrar.
