My other half who works in computers says this is a fantatic deal, apart from the 90 day warranty.
    Dry January: 31/31 days. :T
  • This is not a great deal for several reasons:

    - There is no screen included - rather a vital component!

    - The graphics chip is on the motherboard (it's not a graphics card) and it's one of the worst ones you could possibly have

    - Dual-core processors are now old hat, quad-core is the minimum for decent performance if you want it for games out in 2009 (and even most of those released this year).

    - The stock is ex-bankrupt stock: this is why there is only a 90 day RTB (Return To Base) warranty.

Dell.co.uk have some far better machines at a small additional cost, and the minimum they offer is a one year RTB warranty, if you want a whole new system.

It's not a bad deal if you have a PC at the moment that's pre-Dual Core, but if you want it for games, forget it.
  • This is a very good deal for several reasons.

    It's only £150

Most people have a display already.

You'd struggle to get the components let alone a legal copy of Vista to put on it as well for that money.

It has as solid specification and whilst it may only have a 90 day warranty if a PC is going to go down it's likely to do it in it's first few weeks of life.

For the home user and non gamer a five year old PC with an old P4 processor will be enough to do most things. There isn't that much software about to take advantage of four cores in any case. Two cores is enough for most everything and will be for a few years to come.

It will play games happily if you buy and fit a low end graphics card for less than £40, but you probably won't be buying it for that.

I think you'll find the cheapest equivalent Dell is £299 without a monitor:

    Inspiron 530
Pentium dual core performance together with integrated graphics & generous storage to power through everyday multimedia tasks.
    Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core E5200 processor (2.5GHz, 800MHz, 2MB cache)
Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium with Service Pack 1, 32-bit - English
    Display Not Included
Integrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator 3100
    2048MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]
    320GB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive
DVD +/- RW Drive (read/write CD & DVD)
1 Year Limited Warranty - Collect & Return
