Bit of a long shot Rosey, but as they no longer seem to be treating your household income collectively do you think it might be worth asking for a review on your own IPA based on the fact that your OH can no longer contribute as much to the household because they are robbing off her.

Have you had a play with the calculator to see if it has been calculated correctly? Might also help to see if yours can be reduced. This is what they actually fill in to work out your IPA

Just had my latest response to my last e-mail and it probably would come under the 'step in the right direction' heading.

My IP has stated he has consulted again with his manager regarding the calculations and they are now consulting their technical team for an answer and subsequent breakdown. They have said they are treating it as a matter of urgency and hope to respond to my queries shortly.

I was quite pleased with this. At least my latest set of queries have not been dismissed like the previous set was. Possibly they didn't expect me to come back after the last reply I got but I think I did quite a good job this time of spelling it out in black and white that the change in payments is illogical.

At least I know now that it is being really scrutinised and it will be nice to see the results and breakdown when it is calculated again so that I have something documented and will give me peace of mind in the future that we actually can get pay increases etc without fear of being IPA'd by another 200% of the increase!

    Fingers crossed anyway!

Thank you very much for the update Rosey.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that you get the right result. I know that it is easy for us to say, as it is not us going through all the stress of this, but we are all with you in spirit and are here to support you, all be it with words on the computer.

I had to fight not to have an IPA/O and it took months so I know what it is like.

Having had personal experience of your IP,i do wonder if he ever consulted with his manager in the first place and that now you are not taking this lying down, he now HAS to consult someone;) to see if he is wrong:D .

Keep us posted rosey and good luck.Dx

I got my reply over the weekend from the office manager via recorded mail - our IPA amounts have been recalculated and the revised figures have decreased by a whopping... wait for it.... £5 and £11 respectively!!. (cue anti-climax!)

He was very apologetic about the situation and has assured me that he does fully understand my need to query. However, he also emphasised that the method being used at the RTLU is correct and that the recalculation was actually made by the OR's assistant.

He has stated that the original calculations were incorrect as calculated at the previous OR's office which is why the new increase appears so steep. He said that the previous office calculated our figures as one bankruptcy, deducted the expenses and split the resultant figure in half whereas the new process is actually the correct one which involved two separate bankruptcy cases based on split in income and pro-rating the expenses.

No mention was given as to whether other halves IPA payments should be taken into consideration as far as 'other household contributions' is concerned. Therefore, I can only assume that this is not a consideration which still baffles me as it is still surely money that we never have in the first place. As the calculation was made by the assistant OR, I think I have no option but to go with that particular decision now.

In my most recent letter, I said that I was amazed that nothing was documented on all of this and they have responded by saying that in light of this (and our case as a specific example), they have asked the OR to bring up the topic at a regional OR's meeting later in the week to review how similar cases should be dealt with. It seems like I might get some documentation back in future with the results of these discussions which might make for interesting reading.

So that's it really, although this has ended in defeat generally, we'll still try and claim a moral victory in our own minds! If I have been paying less than I should have been all this time, I guess I should be grateful for small mercies!! Still not sure about this 'partner's IPA non-inclusion though.....'

Thank you (and all) for the encouragement and support. At least I know where I stand now and I'm happy that future increases will only be 70% as they will keep the process consistent from now on.

If I do get any more stuff back relating to their 'OR discussions', I'll post here if it's going to be helpful knowledge to others.
