Best price basics?

Have been shocked by the price rises recently in what I regarded as the basics of my cupboard - tinned tomatoes, pasta, rice etc. - not just at Tesco but even at my fall-back more-of-a-hassle-to-get-to-and-don't-do delivery shops like Lidl. eg Basic pasta up from 19p to 41p - over 100% rise!
Where would people recommend getting reasonable quality but cheap versions of these? - we go through LOTS in our house? Basic/value ranges fine, as long as personally recommended.
Thanks!

I'm hoping all of the basics will go back down in price once Christmas is over. All the flour seems to be 10-15p more per bag, tomatoes are expensive as are bags of dried fruit.
I think it's to fund the Christmas brand discounts!Piglet

I think these stores are taking advantage of the fact that more people are trying to cut costs and trying value brands. My Sainsbury's toilet roll (basics) has gone up from £1.12 to £1.28. Likewise there are other basics items that have gone up nearly 10p or more.

Sainsbury's basics tinned tomatoes were 17p recently, now they're 33p! So I've taken to buying the basics tomato pasta sauce instead, which is only 24p per jar.0
