Check you don't already have free identity theft insurance as some banks and credit cards now offer this.
If you get in touch with the main credit reference agencies you can also password protect your credit file, so if a Co makes a search the fraudster then has to quote a password, which, obviously, only you would know.

this happened to me almost 11 years ago, references are still on my credit report which i'm sure is not doing it any good, i'm still in talks with them to get it completely wiped although i've given up hope long before now...if there is a debt outstanding with a company who are persuing you for it, contact them asap and advise them of the criminal activity this my stop it getting onto your report0
