Credit resolution services help needed

Please help me if you can.
I was a member of golds gym which I cancelled around march by a hand delivered letter. After a few months I got a letter saying I owed money I queried this at the time and got told that it will be sorted and not to worry if there is any problem they would contact us. Today I recieve a demand from crs debt collection for £286 I have phoned but they are insistent we owe this money and they are going to take us to court for it. I have asked them for a copy of my hand delivered letter as this had a date on it to prove my point. I did not think at the time that I needed to keep a copy of a hand delivered letter.

Any advice on what to do next would be appreciated

If you were still within the initial contract period (usually 12 months) when you cancelled, then you would be liable to pay the rest. That could be where the amount comes from?
    :p
  • the inital contract time was up as it was 6 months that is why I am so sure of the dates

  • Just had a phonecall from crs they have spoken to golds and they are saying they have not got a copy of my letter of cancellation and when we phoned up in May to query the amount they were asking for they admitted they had no copy of the letter and that is why they cancelled it in may.

don't know if that makes sense but basically they have admitted that we phoned in May and told them then we had sent a letter.

Ive ahd similar peoblemsith them too dated back to 2005 when they said I owwed them one months premium and now CRS are chasing this amount!
If you handed in your notice as they say you did and then acknowledged that you handed in a letter do you havve theat in writing?
If acknowledged tell CRS you want a copy AND you want a full and accurate report of your account.
There membership isnt coveres by consummer credit so we cant go down that route,
They took 8 more premiums form my account after I too handed in my resignation and also said they had no record of my letter. However the rebated me 8 months worth of premium and its the one left they are disputing.
So I am now saying go ahead take me to court. They have admitted I cancelled my membership by rebating money to me and the bank have a record of the date I cancelled the DD so it all tallys but CRS are SO STUPID that they cant work that out so have otld me Im wawsting their time and clealry my not payhing that one month premium wa becasue I couldnt afford it!!! The cheek of them!!!!
Tell them go ahead taqke you to court theyve admitted they had your letter so waht have you got to lose thats what I think. I have been r eading e milas on a different web site too about Golds Gym and them chasing small amount like one months premium vias CRS and almost everybody had had issues. Whe nsaying og aqhead it appears that they dont in the end proceed to court. Make a fuss with CRS and to hell with them!

    any updates on your situation?

I was 3 months in arrears back in September 2010, I sent a letter to golds gym stating that I was unable to continue with my membership I was unemployed and constantly travelling. I enclosed a cheque (borrowed from family) and stated for them to get in touch if they required anything further with regards to my cancellation. I have been contacted from CRS claiming 450 today.

But it was such a long time ago, I do not have any proof of posting, nor do i remember whether I posted it or hand delivered it. Further more it does not appear as though the cheque has been cashed.

I do not object to paying the rightful amount, however am shocked as 8 months have elapsed since I sent the letter and I did not receive any further information or contact from them and believed it was sorted.

    Any advice?
