Working in the UK for a few days and living abroad: Help

Dear all,
I am very confused and I was wondering if someone could help me out with a similar experience.
I have been studying in the UK for some years and now my department has offered me a small research position to help out a few days a month doing research. I am currently living in an EU country since I am approaching the end of my degree, and only come to the UK to meet my supervisor and help in his research. I stay in a student hall when I am here.
I have finally received my employment contract but need to provide a national insurance number. I have been looking at that and seem to need to live in the UK to get a number? Can’t I live abroad and still work here and pay my contributions?
Any clues as to this situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If the link doesn't work you may have to type it in yourself, sorry.0 -
It sounds as if you are not reisdent in the Uk and so will not be liable to NIC's. You dont need an NI number in order to work here and your employer should know that.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
