Confused about my tax code

After changing jobs I realised my old job had me on an emergency tax code (L3051 or something). I just got paid at my new job and now I am on a different code - BR MT1 which also appears to be an emergency tax code. I've been charged £100 more in tax than I should have been. Can anyone help explain what I need to do to get on the right tax code - what the right tax code should be - and if I can get that £100 paid back, since I gave them all the correct details and my P45? Thanks!

I think the easiest thing here is to ring your tax office (employer will give you the number) and ask them what info they need to issue a proper code number to your employer. Tell them he is operating BR, so its very urgent. No wonder your employer is confused as L3051 makes no sense, so I guess they have put you on BR to be on the safe side. Once HMRC issue the correct code, your employer will refund the tax overpaid.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
