Confused about tax code?

After changing jobs I realised my old job had me on an emergency tax code (L3051 or something). I just got paid at my new job and now I am on a different code - BR MT1 which also appears to be an emergency tax code. I've been charged £100 more in tax than I should have been. Can anyone help explain what I need to do to get on the right tax code - what the right tax code should be - and if I can get that £100 paid back, since I gave them all the correct details and my P45?

Thanks!

  • check with your local tax office- should get proper tax code, then will even out. any over paid tax most likely added to next pay (ie, less taken off!)
