Alistair Darling outlined his prebudget report on Monday, what did you make of it?
Did you favor it?
What were your honest views of it? Did Labour do bad making silly decisions? could they have made the budget choices better?
Did you favor it? - if not, why? share your views.

It's no good to me as due to having a taxi..his initial vat rate looked like it would save us some money on fuel but instead he's put other stuff onto the fuel not only to wipe the vat cut out but to put fuel up by an average of 5p litre...that's a great way to help businesses and families out...NOT!!!!
We have no children at home so the rise in tax credits,CB etc and any other benefits don't help us either.
There is not one thing in the pre budget report that is going to help this recession and with a lot of big businesses going under what chance has the man on the street got.
Anyone with cash will probably hang on to it but not in banks as they offer no incentives and who knows which one will go bust next.
My own opinion is that for the failing banks that rather than just give them money .They should have bought them outright and took control of the lending freeing some money into the markets and starting to get things moving.
The housebuilding plans are quite good as they need more social housing and at least some in the construction industry will have some work.
The gateway savings scheme coming in 2010...he never mentioned that was only for people on benefits...if that was for everybody and started earlier than 2010 and people had to leave the money in for 12 months then the banks would have some money to lend out ....but instead it's only for people that are on certain benefits including people that get full tax credits,IS,etc etc.
So they've spent loads of money that won't increase spending..so a total waste as far as I'm concerned.
Can't wait until this idiot(that nobody voted in) is thrown out at the next election.0 -
Not all that impressed. The VAT cut is only £2.50 per £100 spent. That won't encourage me to spend spend spend.
We do have two kids so a small increase in child benefit, no idea how much tho. Pennies I expect. We earn too much for anything other than basic tax credits of £10 a week and i believe the raise in that won't be applicable to us.
I think everyone needs to just batten down the hatches and weather the storm.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000

I'm just as skint after it as I was before it
.
I really would like to have seen the abolishing of VAT on domestic fuel bills (currently 5% I think) - the way it was until a few years ago. Any (alleged) income tax reductions will take quite a while to feed through to me as I'm self employed.0 -

they should have reduced / abolished council tax & look at energy companies, that would make a difference to every household in the country.0

how would schools and social services and other council services be delivered/paid for then??
energy companies are PRIVATE BUSINESSES - the government can't affect prices!
i wouldn't bother applying for a job at the Treasury if I were you!
