Retaking 3rd year at Uni?

Not sure if any of you can help. A friend of mine is in her 3rd year of BA Hons degree in primary Education, however, she is having terrible family issues at the moment and doesn't feel she'll be able to carry on at the moment. She's gutted as she loves the course but can't put her all into it at the moment.

She's emailed her tutor at uni as she's unable to go in at the moment, but not had a reply yet. So i'm seeing if any of you have any info to help.

Is she able to drop out and then retake her 3rd year next year? i#m not very clued up with university so if anybody could help would be great.

thanks.

Most universities will allow someone to retake one year, depending on the reason and her previous performance on the course.

She should be able to suspend her studies for the year, she would need to advise her tutor and the admin team - she would also need to take into account her fees (she would most likely get charged for this term, and get a refund for the rest of the year).

She could also talk to the Student Centre at her uni - they're best able to give advice and will advise the relevant parties on her behalf.

Hope this helps..... I work in a uni and have a couple of students this year suspending their studies.

it might be worth phoning the tutor if she doesn't hear by email vv soon ... and if she can't get through to the tutor, phoning and speaking to someone in the Registry or admin dept.

  • She needs to speak to her student advisers at her university and she will will have to apply for an 'interruption of studies' application however as she is already in the final year of her course she may still have to pay her fees for what she has done so far. Once that has been done with the university she has to contact the student loans company to let them know for fees purposes.
whatever the mind can concieve, it can achieve!!
