Totally agree - avoid with a bargepole springs to mind
  • I've never been, but why is Kwik Fit such a bad place?

Who cares if Kwik Fit are no good? MOT tests are carried out to a standard and can't be done by any Kwik Fit employee - they have to be done by a quialified MOT inspector. At 29.99, thats a bargain!! Not sure if they have a free 7 day retest policy though.

Doesn't exist any more. MOT's are all computerised and printed out. Mine just failed on minor stuff and has the details on the back. If the repairs are carried out where the MOT took place then there's no charge. If the car is taken off site and returned before the end of the next working day then there's only a partial retest and no charge IF the failure items are on the specified list. Anything else is a full chargeable retest.

The rules haven't changed. The garages are using the computer excuse to raise their prices, if you shop around you might find a garage offering a free retest or tests at reduced prices.

The back of the MOT failure report states all the details, although the garages could probably do the restest for free unless they get charged every time one goes through the system
  • Sorry to say but the mot test now is done through a data base and by the end of Jan, all the test centre's will have been entered on the data base. They cannot offer the free retest if the car etc, fails we are finding this out now as my husband's flew through being a newish car, but my son's car is due at the end of Jan, and i am afraid allthough it is a pretty good runner it will i am sure fail, and to get the work done and put back through a test at another £40 would not be economic.

My husband was a car fitter and has in the past put the cars through a mot and had the 7 day grace in which to get the work done as not to incur the fee again, i understand that the goverment are cracking down on dodgy cars on the road but i still see this as another way to make more money from us. My son cannot really aford to change his car at the same time it just is not worth paying out on repairs and mot fees for a car that is only worth a couple of hundred pounds it will have to be scrapped and it has still a lot of life in it. aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh welll thats life. the garage can put it through as long as they do the work and it does not leave the garage on the day again this is the goverment rules ps have checked with all the local garages and they have all told the same story if you phone around there may still be some garages who have yet to go on the data base but most have allready been entered. woodkitten
