Like many retailers, Superdrug's 'Was@ prices are to be taken with a large pinch of salt - the stock is plonked at the back of in 6 far flung stores for a month at a very high 'establishment' price, then put in 727 other branches with HALF PRICE! and 75% OFF! all over it - even though it only arrived in the store that day! Of course, the 'offer' price is the real price, and probably no one ever paid the high 'Was' price at all!0

I noticed a dvd player in Super Drug before Christmas for £25. They were also selling a 5.1 speaker system for £25. How funny is this though. The dvd player was only only a 2.1 channel player. Both were by the same company! Unfortunately they will be people who bought their kids both of these thinking they are getting them a genuine 5.1 surround sournd package. And why wouldn't you? They are by the same make.0

The model in my superdrug is the one with a 5:1 decoded output. So it is ideal and fully compatible with the 5:1 speaker pack they are selling..
Its still better to buy an all-in-one with the amplifier in the dvd player unit though ( such as the £49 schneider at ebuyer.com) . Because these usually also decode dolby pro-logic ( 1 or 2 ) from stereo broadcasts. They usually have a phono INPUT too, so you can get true surround sound ( pro-logic) from any stereo input ( simply link to your TV to get surround from anything on your TV - e.g Sky , Freeview , videos , or even regular TV broadcasts).
You will get the even better Dolby Digital ( or sometimes the slighly better still DTS) genuine 5:1 sound from DVDs played on the unit.0 -
We bought this the other day and it went through at £17.99. The SA said they must have reduced them again. Not a bad little unit either.geo555 wrote:Sainsburys have an Alba dvd player for £19.990 -
