in the middle of all the bad news with the economy i thought it would be nice to see how far people have come this year?
at the start of this year i didnt have two pennies to rub together i litterally had to raid the penny jar for a loaf of bread and even resorted to buying £1.90 nappies for my little boy:eek: . i had 2 maxed out credit cards and 2 maxd out overdrafts and other debts beside that. in all we owed about £15000 before the mortgage was included. now ive got my house rented out as husband is militery so we live away for cheap. we have cleared both overdrafts and paid of alot of the smaller debts. im now comfortably going into the new year and so happy to be no where near the stress i was in last year. i managed to go and do my christmas shopping for my kids today and know that i can spoil them with the right bargains. im now in £10500. still along way to go but at least i can afford to eat now. hoping to clear alot more of next year and evn have husband motivated as hes match betting a credit card clear for us.:T

About 2 miles. Lol. Well I have moved house twice - argggh. Seriously though - I've survived the year, am now in a nice house, am starting a new job on Monday and my OH has savings despite all the moving and things that have happened. I don't think he knew what savings were before! 2009 is going to be my year.

I'm getting there. This time last year I had 6 months of postgrad loan left to pay (£340/month) 8 months of car loan (£270/month) - £6k of CC debt, £1k overdraft and owed a few quid to a couple of other people.
I've now settled everything but £3.5k of CC and 500 overdraft - so probably a total of 8k down, or so. And over a grand of the student loan paid off too.
It's nice to think this time next year I'll be able to say "hey, you remember when I used to have debt?"0 -
This time last year I was trying to figure out how to save up for bankruptcy. Thanks to a cca request that wasn't complied with I can avoid br. In the next few weeks I'm going to start the bank charges reclaiming, which'll let me make a f&f on one of the other debts. I haven't done enough though and next year I'm going to try and do better.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

What a lovely idea for a thread!!!
in january I had roughly -
HSBC loan - £18000
TSB loan - £5200
HSBC CC - £500
Monument CC - £2000
MBNA CC - £3500
OD - £1250
Car Finance - £1200
OMG how bad is that!!!!
working 2 jobs, 60hr weeks (some 87hr weeks too!)
reclaiming PPI on Loan, switching CC to 0%
careful budgeting
now owe
HSBC loan - £14000 - 6.9%
TSB loan - £2800 - 7%
EGG CC - £820 - 0%
and even have £1800 in an ISA!!! (which will pay CC off when 0% finishes)
Feel as though I have accomplished great things this year. am going to take it easy for a few months but hope to clear everything by Dec 09.
I dont think i would have been quite so motivated if it wasnt for all the lovely people here on MSE
SOOOOOOO
A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO YOU ALL!!!!!!0 -
Congrats to you all ~ you've done really well. It's nice to be able to quantify how far we've come, isn't it?
I'm going to really work at it next year, in the hope that I'll be able to say "This year, I've become debt-free!" ~ something I haven't been for a very long time.

At the beginning of the year I was around £50k in debt, paying well over £1k each month to cover this debt with it not coming down at all, I had a looming CCJ (which I defaulted on), multiple defaults and had no idea what to do .. was very scared
Then after speaking to CCCS and finding this websitei have no debt (except a small student loan)
Pay £186 into my IPA for another couple of years and only 3 and a half months left on my bankruptcy.
Really looking forward to next year and the future beyond:)
I fully accept that I won't be able to get credit for a few years but if i'm honest with myself I don't want it!!:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0 -
Well - The last year I have paid an £11k loan, £3k overdraft and £14k car finance. I still have £19 k on credit cards - all at 0%. This was down to £8 k but a company that owed me money went into liquidation and I lost approx £15k. That was devestating but I am now thinking positively about the money that I have paid off and not what might of been.
Its been hard, we were living way beyond our means even though we earn a lot of money. We still have a long way to go but we are getting there. I am hoping we will be debt free by this time next year.
Although I dont post often I am on here most days taking inspiration from others - for that I thank you all.

Wow Paige, that's absolutely fantastic, what a huge amount you've shifted in one year, would be lovely to hear how you've done this! :TLong Hauler No: 51

Hmm, I was a lot better off last year! Well I was still a student lol, and had a part time job. I was saving up for my move to London, although I had, and still got a £1500 interest free OD. I now have another regular OD of £500 which I am £430 into! It's only temporary though (and I'll make sure it is!). I always knew this year would be tough, so this time next year, hopefully will be much better!0
