Hi i really need some advice... over 10 years age i took a loan from provident(much stupidness) about a year later we got a consolidating loan from welcome finance and paid it off.. i had a clear out and chucked my provident book about 5 years ago as thought i wouldn't need it.. Anyway i have now been in touch with provident and have no recollection of me ever being a customer and a debt company looking for the sum to be paid again which obviously i refuse to pay, the problem is it remains on my experian credit report.. after a break up my ex took on payments for welcome finance(which am pretty sure he's bumped) and now im left in a pickle as dont know what to do.. please help?!?! i just got a txt from BCW group plc so just want to check where a stand before i get in touch with them AGAIN!

Even if there was a residual debt here, then it sounds as if it would be Statute Barred.
Read link: Link: Factsheet | Liability for Debts and the Limitation Act (England/Wales)
If there is a default on an account, then that only stays on your credit reference files for six years as well. So it sounds as if they shouldn't be recording anything on that any more, or that they won't be able to for much longer.
Without knowing more about the circumstances here it's hard to say more.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
