Hello
Saturday 6th i am having a mulled wine party for family. I am doing a hit buffett and want to do a few xmas drinks.
So far i bought 3 bottles of Gluhwein from aldi and a couple of bottles of mulled wine from sainsburys. I tried co-op but they dont have any
I have also bought cider spices from sainsburys - warm up cider and add the spices - for something a bit different
Has anyone got any other ideas?
For the buffett i was thinking more along the lines of iceland party food and loads of cheese and biscuits after (??)
Thanks and merry xmas

I'm doing something similar (although haven't decided on a date yet!). I'm going to make my Gluhwein myself (buying the cartons of wine you can get as it works out cheaper or any red on offer, adding some orange juice, sugar and spices- cinamon sticks, cloves, in a muslin bag). You could also make some Kinderpunch (non-alcoholic gluhwein) by using grape juice, orange juice and the spices. A shot of amaretto is really reallyy nice to add to each glass if you fancy that.
I'm planning of having a spread of festive german treats which I'll buy in bulk from aldi!0 -
What about making snowballs?
1 shot advocaat
1 shot gin/vodka/brandy (oppotional in my case!!)
a splash of Roses lime juice
lemonade as the mixer
YUM!!
Foodwise - you have to have mince pies:rotfl:Comping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -
my top tip for the mulled wine is to put it in the slow cooker to keep warm during the party, this works really well (although best to heat it up first if addding say two whole bottles cold).0

i bought some meade wine last year from a specialist wine shop i havent seen it knocking about in your average shop. Its a tad expensive though
Dont worry about the mince pies. OH is going to make them
I am just concerned i might over do it with food :eek:March 2006 £15,200+ in debt April £843.64 in debt - Debt Free date Sept 2009

Would these help, I've lots of others if you want
Cider Punch
Stud 1 large orange with 4 cloves and put into the oven (Gas 5/400F) for about 20 mins, then carefully slice.
Pare the rinds from 2 lemons and simmer for 8 mins in small glass of water, Strain, add 2oz sugar and return the liquid to the pan with the juice from the lemons, and about a litre of cider, 1 tsp allspice, 1/2 tsp ginger and heat gently until really hot but not boiling, turn off add sliced orange
Mulled wine 2
bottle of goodish red wine
honey or sugar to taste
cloves,
cinnamon stick,
bay leaf,
grated nutmeg,
rind of lemon, (not the pithe - its bitter)
rind of orange, (as lemon)
cup of water,
slug of brandy
sliced orange
Heat gently until hot (do not boil), turn off, add the thinly sliced orange and let infuse for at least 30 minutes.
No alchohol punch
8oz water
6oz !white sugar
2 pinches ground cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1pint apple juice !
1 lemon, sliced
In a large saucepan, bring water, sugar, cloves and cinnamon to boil.
Stir in juice and heat through. Do not boil. Take spices out and pour over lemon slices in serving bowl. Serve warm.
MULLED WINE (my favourite)
½ pint water
4 oz. Sugar
4 cloves
2 inch stick cinnamon
2 lemons
1 bottle wine
1 orange
Boil water, sugar and spices together. Add the lemons, stir and leave to stand for 10 minutes. Pour back into the saucepan and add red wine. Heat but do not boil. Strain the wine into a bowl and serve hot, decorated with orange and lemon slices. Makes about 1 ½ pints0
