Job promotion on trail period but can’t go back to old position if I fail.

My department boss retired back in June 08 and I was given a promotion to take his position on a 6 month trial period, I was his assistant.
After a month in the new position I was informed that my old position was not going to be filled so I’ve ended up taking on the new role while also continuing all my old duties basically.
Now what would happen if at the end of the 6 month trial I was told I’d failed the trial period? As my old position is obviously been redundant, would I to be made redundant or would they have to give me my old roll back?

I'd have thought you would lose your job. HOWEVER, as you are still doing your old role you are in a strong position to argue your case for being kept on. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Certainly something your employer could only tell you.
However, have you paused to think why your old position was not filled?
Maybe you are doing so well at doing both, the company does not need to replace you?
Why do you think you are going to have failed your trial period!?0 -
I'm pretty sure I wont fail, just thinking the worst!0

I think I'd be inclined to think that the new job is yours!!There We Are Then !!
