What do people do to keep their spirits up

hi all,

I was wondering what people do to keep themselves smiling in their difficult times, AND to keep their mind on the most pressing issue.
I still have not found a flat (7 days left!), my partner is not talking to me and my friends dont seem to be very supportive!
However its a beautiful day outside and Im looking to going home to see my folks at Christmas :j

Hi Andy, I suppose really your last sentence is the answer! Look on the bright side, look on what you have already, look at what you have achieved so far, keep reading and contributing to this website.

    I sing, :o

Stick on a cd /dvd/ that you like and sing at the top of your voice.

    Always makes me feel better.

  • Hi, good question!

I'm looking forward to reading what other people do too.

I would have to say that I come on to MSE - just knowing that I'm not alone on this journey is a big support and I would feel lost without this site.

Other things that I do (apart from sticking music on and singing - rather badly  and dancing about the ironing board - obviously the kids/oh need to be out of the vicinity - oh, okay then, maybe not but I imagine they would WANT to be out of the vicinity :D ) are:

giving myself a good talking to and reminding myself (and others sometimes!) that there are lots of things for which I should count blessings. There are so many blessings around when you actually stop to think about/notice them.

I try not to "beat myself up" and remind myself that "you die if you worry, you die if you dont - so why worry  ". [says she who is convinced that she was born to worry :rotfl: ]

Above all, try to keep smiling ... the world would be a much nicer place if we all smiled more often :D

P.S. Oh, I almost forgot ... I know that in the back of my mind that I'm doing the best I can in the circumstances we're in and as long as I am still making the effort to deal with the pressing issues, I can try to put them to the back of my mind and concentrate on living in the here and now.
