CANON EOS300D DIGITAL - £100 cashback and 256mb

Options
HI,

Not to sure to post this as could end up losing out here but as so many people have made posts and I have saved from them here goes.

I having been spending month looking for a digital camera around the 250 – 300 at a push and just browsing I came across currys website.

https://www.currys.co.uk

Ok the first thing is the 10% off anything over £199

Then browsing the digital camera’s I noticed:
CANON EOS300D DIGITAL CAMERA SLR KIT

Instore Price £689.89
£599.94

£100 CASHBACK when you buy a Canon EOS 300D Digital SLR before January 31st 2005. Click here to download the cashback redemption form.PLUSFREE 256MB Compact Flash Card - when you register your new Canon 300D Digital SLR on the Canon website by December 31st 2004 at https://www.cig.canon-europe.com/reg
I have read about 20 reviews and they have all been excellent but know if you look at the deal

£599.94 – 10% off / £100 cash back and a 256mb card

Ok this works out not as cheap as chips but it has to be the best deal by far.

The reason I have not ordered one is that the sites offering this same deal and then offering 10% - 20% further all seem to be sold out ie Dixon’s were you can use emailalert30 for orders over £300

Any body knows I better deal I love to here from you :D

    Scooby,

The cheapest I can find it is at The Image Division for £478 including the £100 cashback and a free 256mb card.  Scroll down the page - it's listed as Body Only Kit, fairly near the top.

    Scooby,

I too have been looking for a Canon EOS 300D and the Currys deal at £599.94 including the 18-55mm lens is the best deal I have found so far.

Looking on the Currys website I cannot see a 10% discount for purchases over £199.

However, as I am a Co-operative Bank Privelige account holder I can claim an extra 10% bringing the price down to £539.95. Taking into account the £100 cashback from Canon making the price £439.95, this is an excellent price - and then there is the free 256 MB Compact Flash card!

As regards the quality of the product, virtually every review has been really good, although most agree that the Nikon D70 shades it.

The question is - why are Canon giving away an extra £100 on probably the best selling digital SLR? Is there a better replacement waiting in the wings? The new EOS 20D has an 8 Megapixel sensor rather than the 300D's 6.3 Perhaps there is a model with the new sensor about to be launched?

One more thing - I am told by my local camera shop that if you get dust on the sensor this has to be cleaned by Canon and costs about £50.

    Hi,

Just keep checking the stock at Currys - it was available on Monday, not on Tuesday, back in stock again Wednesday, out of stock again today (Thursday).

Anyway, is mail/internet ordering the best way to buy such a specialist product? Personally, Currys wouldn't be my supplier of choice for a camera - I would prefer to deal with a specialist camera shop. I wonder if https://www.jessops.co.uk will price match on this deal? I would personally feel happier buying from a local retailer if possible, especially with my history of buying duff products!

Beware of buying a non-uk camera as you won't get the cashback or the memory card and I don't think that Canon Uk will do warranty work either.

The Currys 10% code is AFF10PC which expires on 6th December.

I'd suggest folk have a look at the other lenses available for this camera before buying, they are VERY expensive - have a look at https://www.nomatica.co.uk for information.

Well since it takes Canon EF lenses they vary from about £50 to £6,000+ . You generally get what you pay for with lenses. I picked up a 50mm F1.8 for £30 once, hardly a huge expense for such a good lens....

Worth remembering that you don't have to buy canon lenses. .

For anyone looking at getting into DSLR's - the deal that curry's are doing is astonishing. By the time you get your rebate from canon, your paying around £400. £ for £, this is superb value. .

    Hi All

    2 things:

Firstly thanks to all that have responed back

Secondly - They are out stock DOH.

Intresting comments about getting the nikon but comparing this price to paying nearly 300 more this is a clear winner, further if this did turn out to be a non uk spec just send it back to currys stating that cannon would not give you the £100 cashback ;)

It be good to hear a comments from people how have one good or bad :D

    Thank,s

You WILL get dust on the sensor, it is a fact of life when you change lenses. Impact is most apparent on photos taken with long lenses particularly at small aperture (high f-stop number), will be most apparent against a solid light background such as sky.

I've had a 10D for 18months, cleaning is relatively straightforward, equipment costs about £20 . For more info go here:
