Amex say they can't help

Posting again as I can't find original.

I made and cancelled a hotel reservation for a stay at the beginning of August. I had the confirmation and cancellation emails since May/June 2008. Only recently deleted them as I was clearing out old emails.
So I was quite surprised to see an entry for a stay at the hotel I had cancelled in my November Amex statement. I phoned Amex and they said they couldn't help as I had no evidence of cancellation.
I phoned the hotel and they say that they billed me for a no-show.

Q. Why did the hotel only bill me in November when the stay was supposed to be in August?
Q. What are my rights? It's my word against the hotel's.

Comments

  • You should have kept a hard copy of the cancellation email or written down the reference number. If you can not supply them an evidence of the cancellation then you're liable for the charge. You should have a word with the hotel you booked.
