Casserole Dish question

I may sound dumb here, but are all Casserole Dishes flame proof? I mean can you put them over the hob on direct flame?

You see i want to make Gino D'Acampo's Sausage, Bean and Olive Casserole that i saw him make on This Morning ITV :p

It looked lovely and delicious. I printed out the recipe, but wanted to ask this question before i do something i live to regret

No,they're not.I've some casserole type dishes which are only oven-proof not flame-proof.I did once put an oven proof dish on the hob assuming it to be flame-proof and it cracked right in two,so beware!

DH did this when I said he could warm curry in a ceramic casserole dish - he put it on a gas hob - it cracked in half and cooker was in a right state - so was I when I found out.

Unless it is an enamel dish then you cannot use the hob.

What you can do of course, is do all the hob top prep in a frying pan and transfer to an oven-proof casserole to finish cooking.

If you're going to buy one - get a Le Cruseut. They're very expensive to buy in the first place but are so lovely to use and IMO are worth every penny. It's my favourite thing in my kitchen.

You could buy a slow cooker, Kimberley!

I already have one but because of how Gino cooks it etc, it may not be the same in a Slow Cooker.
