I may sound dumb here, but are all Casserole Dishes flame proof? I mean can you put them over the hob on direct flame?
You see i want to make Gino D'Acampo's Sausage, Bean and Olive Casserole that i saw him make on This Morning ITV
It looked lovely and delicious. I printed out the recipe, but wanted to ask this question before i do something i live to regret

No,they're not.I've some casserole type dishes which are only oven-proof not flame-proof.I did once put an oven proof dish on the hob assuming it to be flame-proof and it cracked right in two,so beware!0

DH did this when I said he could warm curry in a ceramic casserole dish - he put it on a gas hob - it cracked in half and cooker was in a right state - so was I when I found out.
Unless it is an enamel dish then you cannot use the hob."This site is addictive!"

What you can do of course, is do all the hob top prep in a frying pan and transfer to an oven-proof casserole to finish cooking.0

If you're going to buy one - get a Le Cruseut. They're very expensive to buy in the first place but are so lovely to use and IMO are worth every penny. It's my favourite thing in my kitchen.0 -
Sorry,for stating the obvious!0

You could buy a slow cooker, Kimberley!"Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0

I already have one but because of how Gino cooks it etc, it may not be the same in a Slow Cooker.0
