Returning my policy docs - why?

I've just had a letter from my mortgage company (Birmingham Midhsires), telling me that they are 'releasing' my policy documents. The policy has six years still to run. Why would they do this?

What policy? A Life Term Assurance policy? Endowment? It is no longer common practice for lenders to assign insurances or retain documents relating to life cover so it may just be that as a matter of course they are advising you that they will no longer require them.

Thank you, Luckyfool. It's an Endowment. Guess they are just trying to free up some office space or shift the responsibility for safety!
