helping bankrupt partner

Hi
My partenr of 11months had already gone through ordeal of becoming bankrupt before we met. That was over a year ago. He has always been very upfront about his past.

I feel he still has money worries that he cant confide in me about. I know he has letters from debt collectors and he now getting loans to pay these bills.

I really want to help him, but am highly aware this is very senstiive for him to talk about. I want to offer support without appearing 'parental' or interfering. He also doesnt know i have seen the letters.

I can sense he is worrying and want to help him face up to what happening together.

Any advice on how to support him would be appreciated.

Hi, unless he took out more debt after BR, he should not be getting any letters from debt collectors and certainly does not have to pay them.

how long ago exactly was his BR and has he been discharged? You can't obtain credit over £500 without informing lender you are BR while undischarged.

He has to speak to the cccs or national debtline or citizens advice if he is worried.

    National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111

need more information really and he has to face upto it if he does have a problem and best thing to do is get advice from one of the charities above.

  • get him drunk, go though his things

tie him up, go through his things

send him out for a chinese, go through his things

    I JEST!

you must get him to open up, have you got joint bank accounts? does he get much sinister mail (brown envelopes)? 99% of debts are wiped by BR, only a handfull arent (student loans and some council tax debts) could they be the reason?
Now we all know how it felt to play in the band on the Titanic...

My sinister mail came in white envelopes! :D

If he won't tell you, then I would vote for some sneaky snooping! and then ask him about it. If you do have joint accounts then it could affect you too.
