Up all night with kids, need wholesome food today: help!

Dunno what's up with my babies but both kept waking last night. We all got a total of 3hrs sleep. Hubby's away on business trip and no family local enough to help.
Anyway...can you help me think of something nutritious that i can just throw in the slowcooker so that if/when the kids finally nap I can sleep too and then we can have something to eat other than toast?
i really feel that on days like this nutritious food is very important - unfortunately when energy levels are low it's all to easy to eat biscuits all day.

Glad we're not the only ones. Our little monster has an issue going to sleep at the moment. And we've no idea what to do about it. Everything has been fine up until now.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move
Lily contracted Strep B Meningitis Dec 2006  Now seemingly a normal little monster.
Love to my two angels that I will never forget.0 -
I can't recommend anything for the slow cooker but I'd make a big batch of lentil soup and have that for lunch and dinner with bread or sandwiches.
2 carrots
1 onion
1 celery stalk
1 leek
1 cup lentils
water to cover everthing
2 chicken/veg stock cubes
simmer 1 hour, blend, enjoy.
If you don't have those ingredients in I'd still recommend a soup, easy and nutritious. Or what about omelettes?
Make a few sandwiches up this morning so you can grab something quick too... tuna/egg/cheese/jam/peanut butter/hummous...
HTH I've been there with the "up all nighters" too xx0 -
That soup sounds like just the thing.

I cannot believe my kids are STILL not sleeping!!!
I can't go out bc hubby took both sets of keys with him by mistake so I'm literally locked in - although I can climb out the window (we're in a bungalow). Having said that I can't go out anyway as i'm waiting for a parcel to be collected.
Any tips for surviving the day? Anything legal considered!:o"Finish each day And be done with it.

hi npsmama
Really feel for you as my kids were not good sleepers either and my husband was away most weekends and bank holidays as he worked for a motor racing team.
It's tough trying to cope with it on your own, but at the same time you have nobody around to criticise you either so you can't really lose!
Don't know how old your children are, but if we were staying in I used to get all the toys out or make an obstacle course or camp out of chairs and old sheets, or you could cuddle up and watch a nice cosy film together.
I would say you need loads of comfort food but I don't have a slow cooker so can't really recommend any recipes. Any kind of stew and dumplings or soup (the lentil soup sounds nice) and maybe a microwaved syrup or chocolate sponge for pudding would be good too.0 -
hi
anything,
chicken leftover(any meat), frozen veg, potatoes and stock
mince tomatoes, herbs, onion etc for bolognaise
loads of veg (fozen is ok) and potaoes and veg stock cube and few other herbs and this will be a veggie soup.
will try to think of some more for you.

Tin of baked beans, tin of tomatoes, squirty tomatoe puree, herbs (I use chilli and mixed) and any meat - sausages?

Have a nice cup of camomile tea and breath deeply and slowly.
Maybe the babes were too hot or too cold so wouldn't sleep nicely.
Hopefully for you, they will be knackered tonight and you can get some shuteye.Felines are my favourite

Poor you. When I am tired and don't feel like cooking I love a big plate of porage. One cup oats, one cup milk, two cups water, pinch salt. Add to pan and bring to boil then simmer for 5 minutes. Serve with milk and sugar or honey and fruit.0
