Haggling for a sofa? (Worth it? Which points?)

    Just a quick note to let everyone know that haggling really does work. We have recently purchased a 3 and a 2 seater sofa from SCS. Like all good furniture retailers they were heavily reduced allready (you know the score WAS £2000 NOW £250). The sale price of both these leather sofas was £2400, that was with no protection or insurance. After almost 20 minutes of haggling as I didn't want the interest free credit, I got them for £2100 and a case of the free plonk that they give out at the front of store.

    As mentioned before they wont discount the delivery as this is carried out by subcontractors.

    Before Christmas however I drove to the store (Speke) in a rage because I thought that I had seen them advertised on the tv a lot cheaper, only 3 weeks after we had ordered. I had worked out in my head what I was going to say and was determined to leave a satisfied customer, on entering the shop however, in a rage, I noticed that the sofas that I had seen on the TV was from a completely different range and mine were still at same price. I have also noticed that they are not in the post Christmas sale either so I'm a happy bunny.

    My advice to all those too embaressed to haggle is, DONT BE SHY, especially on these retail parks where there are 2 or 3 of the same kind of shop. If you do not ask you will not get. Set yourself a haggling target and start below it, 10% is better in your pocket than anyone elses. If they are offering interest free, offer cash, or better still pay on a credit card that is offering an interest free period on purchases and leave your cash in the bank until the interest free period is at an end. This kind of retailer (expensive goods) is getting it tight at the moment and you will get a discount.
