Bank charges

I read an interesting thread the other day about illegal charges from banks. My question is does this stand for any kind of charges I had a onetel account for my phone calls on which I was late making the payment on the final bill (switched back to BT) and they have charged me £5.00. Bearing in mind that my bills only come in around the £8.00 each month i find this rather high can i use the same argument with them as i can with the bank.

Its certainly worth a try xmaslolly. If you haven't had any other missed payments they may take it off as a good will gesture.

Give them a call, nothing to lose I would say.
  • If you signed a credit agreement, it's probably in the small print that they will charge for late payments, etc.

Totally different to bank charges. For those interested, more on bank charges here:

Unfortunately not, the £5 pound charge could be reasonably argued to be a fair "pre or true estimate of loss" for the undue administration involved in processing a late payment

With the bank charges in some cases people are being charged literally hundreds of pounds for 1 or 2 returned direct debits, this is obviously grossly unfair, not to mention legally and contractualy dubious, hence the worm is turning on the banks and C.C companies when "unfair" charges are applied ( and not a second too soon )
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
