Unusual PC issue 0 HELP! I'm stumped

My Pc is driving me mad!
When in word. exel, and microsoft outlook the save dialogue box keeps on appearing for no reason and won't go away. I've worked out that if I tab to the cancel box in the dialogue box and press carriage return whilst clicking with my mouse somewhere in the document it does go away eventually. The problem is intermittent but at its worst the save box comes up every 2 or 3 letters.
Applying logic to the problem, I've ruled out a virus as it also happens when I'm working remotely on my work desktop and that is very securely protected. My home pc also has virus protection but not to the same extent
I wondered whether it could be a loose wire somewhere in my keyboard or mouse that was unintentionally setting off a shortcut to the save dialogue box. I borrowed a keyboard from work and had no problems but then had no problems with my own either for the next few days
- as I said, its an intermittent problem
I've asked the tech guys at work and also spoken to my friendly local pc shop owner but they've never heard of such a problem.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Does anyone have any advice?

Have you tried going to Tools - Options - then looking at the 'Save' tab too see what the settings are?
What version of Microsoft Office are you running?0 -

only options ticked are 'allow background saves' and 'save autorecover in 10 minutes'Coolcatfish wrote: »What version of Microsoft Office are you running?
I'm not sure - the one that was most up to date when I bought the PC 2 ish years ago. How would I find this out?0 -

The flash screen when you open an office app should show you but you can also see if you go to Help -> About.
I'd try doing a repair on office by selecting on the Help menu in any Office program, "Detect and Repair."0 -

Thanks - I always forget where that 'about' thing is - am running detect and repair now0 -
I'm confused - are you saying you used a different keyboard at work while remotely accessing your home PC?dawnteabag wrote: »Applying logic to the problem, I've ruled out a virus as it also happens when I'm working remotely on my work desktop and that is very securely protected.
