  • You can get some great late deals the day before/morning for 1 night away if you actually ring the hotels and ask what the best is they would day if they have a room spare. I do this all the time and get loads off.

Can you take him somewhere that was special to both of you - a restaurant or something from when you were just courting?

How about taking him for a day out to a brewery - men love that!

Or how about getting loads of your friends to go to a pub and take him there to celebrate without booking a private room etc and that way all your friends will definitely buy the drinks!

    Hope some of these help

I am currently working on 60th for next year, brought on play a top of the pops cd for 1969 for just over £3 I think, plan to get something to remember each decade leading up to 60th, this covers being 20!!! I have seen on here the idea of a football programme related to team and special year if hes into footie. I agree its really hard!!

How about a booklet for 12 special things to do in his 50th year?

    things like:
    A trip to the seaside
    A meal out
A day at the ...... (whatever you enjoy)

this gives you a small expense each month rather than having to pay for everything in one go. You could start with an evening out & when you go out have all his friends there...

Another thought how about a box/hamper containing 50 things, some would be little bits ie photo of you both, fav choc/sweets/beer etc, some promises / favours ie a promise that you will give him......(fill in the blanks, massage, foot rub etc etc) then these would be opened in however long timescale you choose...much like an advent calender, or 2 per day for the month? Also anything he really dislikes then you offer to do as a favour and he can cash it whenever he wants, not sure ie if its his job to do the rubbish you do if for the week? Obv very personal to you and your OH but without much financial input.

How about writing a list of everything you love about him and popping them one by one in a jar.

Cook a meal with a big birthday cake with candles for pudding?

How about finding out things about the day your OH was born; the year this site could be helpful...

I made a 'book' for my brother's 30th with this sort of info and other stuff like name meaning, star sign and meaning, price of items the year he was born...
