DCA texting and writing:chasing me for old loan

I was at Uni from 95-98 and had a student loan to the tune of some odd £4.5k.
This morning i received a letter from credit Resource solutions requesting full payment.
A few hours later a text on my mobile arrived from them!
asking to contact them.
Is this now statute barred? Can anyone advise what i should do ? My financial situation's not that great at the mo' and if its meant to be statute barred then - should it not remain so ? Or I recall remember seeing somewhere that these 'types' of loans cannot become statute barred ?
ANy - any advice would be appreciated..

I think (I hope someone will come along who knows a bit more), that these loans cannot become statute barred. Check if you have a CCJ. I assumed the same thing with my student loan (long story), but to my horror I discovered that the student loan co had already taken me to court & got a CCJ.
I think they usually go to Northanpton. I have had to make arrangements to pay the loan off via Mackenzie Hall who are total sh*ts.
Not much info I know, but I didn't want to read & run.LBM:FEB 2008

There is something on the nationaldebtline site about this. The rules changed in 1998 so part of this may be statute barred.
I'll have a hunt to see if i can find it again - not used to the new site layout yet.
Edit: http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=25_liability_for_debts_and_the_limitation_act#13
It looks like there are 2 types of loan now. Pre September 1998 could be statute barred after 6 years - after '98 would be after 12 years. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0

from the little reasearch i've done online i gather 'the rules' changed with the SLC in that in '98 any loan taken out prior to that (ie. mine!) comes under a CCA agreement.
In simple english - can someone tell me if that means this debt is therefore statue barred?CC1: [strike]1,500[/strike] CC2:[strike]£830[/strike] Vanquis [strike]£1500[/strike] £2000 left

Just to make sure, the loan would be covered by English law wouldn't it?
There are 2 types of loan.
A simple contract which is covered by the CCA and would be statute barred after 6 years (So any student loan taken out up until September 1998 would be classed as this)
A contract under seal - normally used for mortgages etc, but also student loans taken out since September 1998 would fall into this category and would be statute barred after 12 years.
When did you take out the loans?
95-97 would be statute barred.
98 may be outstanding, but this will depend on when the agreement was signed. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

loan was 95-98. I graduated summer 98.
i also just called the national debtline and they confirmed it should be statute barred.
just need to find a template letter to send off at some point...thanks a million for your input
