I've been asked by a contractor toi do some maintenance work in a school. I will need a CRB check. Will it disclose a conviction for which I received a Conditional discharge 25 years ago?

If it is enhanced, yes, if its basic no.

What is the difference? I will be in the school to carry out work as part of a team for approx 4 hours.0

What was the conditional discharge for? You are not barred from working in a school simply for having a criminal record. They would only be concerned if the offence was abuse of a child, etc.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

The enhanced is a deeper check and "spent" convictions show.
A basic check is the opposite.

Conditional discharge was for a fraud related to some high jinks at a hotel.
I have been told a CRB check is required but it has not been specified whether is is basic or enhanced. What would be normal for this type of work?0

fraud related to some high jinks at a hotel.
Its amazing how people try to pass off crimes as a "bit of high jinks" LOL.What would be normal for this type of work?
Because you won't actually be caring or have contact with the children, I suspect you will get a basic check.
Can't you just ask? If It was me I would say, "Can I just ask what type of check it will be? I only ask cos 25 years ago I did something I regret...." being totally honest.

I don't think that a 25 year old non-violent offence is going to prejudice your working there.0

It's down to the school to specify the level of check that they want, as being self-employed you won't be able to apply for a Disclosure yourself. If they follow the guidelines (and they will, Enhanced checks being much more expensive) it'll be a Standard check, as Basic checks no longer exist. To be honest even an enhanced check is extremely unlikely to show anything from 25 years ago if it didn't involve drugs or violent crime (and maybe not even then). Cautions and conditional discharges will show up even on a Standard check if they were recorded on the Police National Computer; pretty damn unlikely for a minor offense from that far back.
You'll also be subject to the DCSF part of the Disclosure (formerly known as List 99; adults unsuitable for working with children) and a PoCA (Protection of Children Act) list check.
In the incredibly unlikely event that the conditional discharge shows up AND you aren't allowed to work there as a result, the local authority (or private school if such it is) are in breach of guidelines for acting on information contained in the checks and are probably also in violation of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
That was a lot of words just to say "don't worry about it", but... don't worry about it 0 0
