Fiirst State Pension Payment

Options
I turned 65 at the beginning of this month and was surprised to learn that I don't get my first pension until the 28th of this month as they pay the 4 weekly payments in arrears. My query is this. The DWP told me that the payment left their account on the 21st, so why, in this electronic money transfer age, does it still take five working days to arrive in my account?

Well, I've waited a month now, so a few more days won't matter. Stiil can't understand why it takes so long to transfer from the DWP to my account!

I have mine paid weekly so that any interest earned is in my account and not either with DWP or floating in space... not much but every little helps in the scheme of things

  • I will be 60 early in February and I was checking with the pensions department about whether they had received my certificates today. I also asked when I would receive the first payment and they said early in March. I have asked to be paid weekly, so I was a little bit surprised.

(I don't know why I put the phone down without querying this, but I suppose I didn't want to sound too keen on receiving the money, which I am)

Can anyone confirm that the first payment is four week after your birthday if you are supposed to be recieving weekly payments?

It's the first Monday after your birthday if you're receiving weekly payments.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
  • Thank you. That's what I thought. The person on the phone must have fogotten I mentioned getting paid weekly. I was expecting some money on 9th February, if they get it processed in time.

    Thank you again.
  • Yes, we opted for weekly too, ours is in our account every Monday, earlier if the Monday is a holiday.
