Just wondering if anyone has made Bolognese for large groups before? I'm trying to work out how much mince I need to buy. Its for a party, to be served with bread and I'm not sure how to work out amounts. There will be other food at the party including crisps, sausage rolls, pitta bread and dips, quiche and cakes.

It depends on how much you're going to bulk it out etc. I'd probably work on getting at least 4 portions from 1lb of mince, especially if you bulk it out.

  • Go to iceland and buy about 4 bags of their frozen mince they about £2 each but get loads out of them..... chunk up with mushrooms and onions,, these can be bought frozen too.. i think 4 bags should be enough.

Lentils will help to bulk it out and no one will notice.

I have used the bags of frozen mince from Iceland (big bag 2.50) and get about 6 good portions out of them, so 4 would probably be fine. I add grated carrot to the mix too, it seems to add flavour and texture. Good luck

Thanks, have written a little list for BF tomorrow, with mince, carrots and lentils on (only have a few left). I have a huge bag of oats, so that's alright. Won't be able to add mushroom or much onion as I'm allergic, but have no problems with carrot.

That would depend on how long the party was. Lentils have an effect on me.

I'd work on 4oz or 100g of meat per person and that will be fine. Catering in bulk is just a matter of numbers. Work out what you'd normally do for two or four of you and multiply it!

I would normally get six portions from 500g of mince, but that's a lot of mince as part of a main meal, rather than a late evening snack.
