In need of advice

Hi,
A few years ago I failed to fill out a tax return. In that tax year i had a number of different jobs, some were PAYE and others were under CIS4.

Not unreasonably HMRC are now chasing me for that return and applying penalties on a daily basis. The problem is due to personal circumstance i have lost all CIS4 vouchers and two P 45 forms for this period stopping me from submitting a return.

HMRC seem unable to help me retrieve the information and the ex employers are no better. Does anyone know of a good way to get this information ?

I have no problem with paying fees to get this information as i do not have the time to chase this myself anymore.

I am confident that i owe the treasury nothing ( if anything they owe me ! ) but until i can file a return with the relevant information they will continue to quite rightly pursue the matter.

Any ideas ???

I don't understand why HMRC does not at elast have the P45 details. Have you actually written to them asking for these details, giving the names of the employers and the dates you were employed?
Otherwise, if you dont have the info and neither do your employers, there does not seem a lot one can do.
You say you dont have the time to chase this info anymore and yet you somehow want the info to magically appear!

Not quite, what i mean is i don't have the time to be on the phone to numerous departments trying to find out who can help me find this information. It is my fault for not having the original documents im just surprised it is so hard to find copies.

All i am asking is does anyone know a ) if there is a specific department i could speak to or b ) There are people who are able to trace these documents on my behalf. I have approached a couple of accountants but they did not seem interested.

You need to do this through your present tax office. Set out clearly in writing what information you need and they will either gather it from your records or pass your request on to the tax office dealing with that particular employer. Can you get details of self employed income from your bank statements?
