Well, I got engaged last week
Do you think its possible to organise a wedding for next year if we start organising/booking in Jan?
Also is there an average sort of budget I can work with?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm going to have a go at reading Mrs Trifts thread - wish me luck:rotfl:

Yes it is possible to get married next year. as for budget that really needs to come from you - how much do you want to spend?
An average wedding will cost £15K upwards. 0 -
Congratulations!!!
Well.... the time it takes to plan and the budget largely depend on what you have in mind!
I'm hoping to get married next Christmas (a few legalities on getting divorced 1st!) and having a small but very beautiful wedding for about 30-40 people. Budget probably about 5k plus honeymoon.
If you want a Saturday wedding you will need to get a move on as suppliers and venues get booked very quick, if you can be flexible and will consider a weekday (we're thinking over xmas next year as people will be off work anyway!) then its a lot easier to get people to be flexible and offer discounts
Lots of luck and enjoy your planning!0 -
You will be able to get married next year easily
Saturdays could be a problem though, those get booked up fast.
We set a date earlier this month to get married in May, and we have everything booked already - we chose a Wednesday so it's much easier, plus there are discounts.
We are aiming for 35-40 people on a budget of around 3k. That's the thing with weddings, they can be as cheap or as expensive as you want.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. We got engaged in july, and decided to get married next year. We found that most venues had a couple of saturdays left, but after searching found one with 05.09.09 available that we both liked. It's actually the local county hall, so quite cheap!
Our budget is approx £8000, I'd like that to include honeymoon, but I'm not sure it will.
Apart from the church and the venue, there is nothing else really booked. But I'm sure we will get there!Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

Thanks for all your comments.
I think a budget of 5k would be achiveable for us. I ideally would like the wedding in June but think it unlikely.
I'm glad to hear that non Sat weddings generaly get a discount, does anyone know how much generally? I think a Friday would be good.Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

We got engaged a year ago and married on the 26th July this year (it was a Saturday). We spent just over £10,000 but we did have a very expensive 3 week honeymoon.
We didn't start looking for venues until January and got exactly what we wanted. We didn't pay anything for the hotel, but we did pay just over £500 to get married in the gazebo in the hotel gardens.
Good luck.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

im getting married on a thursday anmd have thje room for the do free all day as long as meet minimum numbers for the buffet. so thats saved me £250getting married 12/3/09
wedding fund £2,000.0 -
We got married on a Monday and were able to afford things that would have been out the window.
The venue didn't have any minimum numbers and no room hire charges so we got the big function room for free. The registrar was also cheaper and it was easier to get a car and they didn't charge extra mileage for being slightly out of their area and neither did the photographer.
Our wedding cost about £6500 in all although that did include rooms for several of the guests and a free bar.Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended

Its definitely possible!
My OH's cousin got engaged and married within 6.5 months and we are getting married in June. We only started planning in October and have got the venue we love on a Sunday, they also cater so no worries on that front and they have a registrar assigned to their venue. Not started looking for photographers yet, but hoping to use someone else on this board's suggestion of asking around colleges that teach photography to see if there are any willing students who would do it with costs and a small fee on top. I might put an ad on gumtree as well.
The only thing I think you would need to be considerate of is your dress. Most stores seem to be quoting at least 4 months and up to 6 months from ordering to getting the dress in if your size is not in store. I have decided to have mine made by MillyBridal and she has quoted a lead time of 60 days. I've tried loads on over the past 3 weeks and found one I love but its far too expensive, it won't be long enough (I'm 5'11") and I would like a small train so getting one made is the best option.
Our budget was initially about £3000 but has crept up! My parents are paying for the venue and catering which is costing just under £3000 and we have £1000 for everything else."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0
